She Did What Now?
First a blog, now a YouTube? Who is she?
*said my inner critic*
I’ve been playing around with this idea for a while now. The thing is I just love YouTube! I’m a big fan of #vanlife, remodeling, sustainable living, interior design, and you name it. I love watching people do what they're passionate about. I love storytelling. I love learning. I love seeing things from another’s point of view.
But can little ol’ me be a YouTuber?
So I’m taking the plunge! I have little to no skills in editing but I have a camera, some determination, and a whole lotta nerves.
Something you may or may not know about me is that I am a BIG reader. Last year, I hit 82 books and I’m about to pass that number this month. I consume them and devour every morsel all at a 2x the speed pace. If I don’t like the book, I immediately stop and pivot. I delete the book title from my history and await the next victim from my hold list of 20 books long. It was a game changer when I found out last year that as a city employee, I could get a library card even though I’m not living in their city limits. So armed with 2 library cards and as a member in 2 separate book clubs I feel like I can recommend a book or 17.
My lil’ sister was looking for a new recommendation so I pulled out my copy of You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincerco. I listened to the audiobook version on a road trip a few years back and it changed my life. So I bought a physical copy, read it again, and notated the crap out of it only to put it on the shelf. I haven’t read it in a few years and she didn’t want it so I read it again.
Here are some key points if YOU want to start living an awesome life:
“You need to go from wanting to change your life to deciding to change your life.”
“Do not waste your precious time taking one single crap about what anybody else thinks of you.”
“Your thoughts and beliefs dictate your reality so if you want to change your reality you have to change your beliefs.”
“Hone your skills, take your craft seriously, learn what you need to learn, invest in yourself, practice your *ss off, fall down, get up, keep going, and get really really really good at what you do but don't lose the fun in the process.”
“If you're going to push through major obstacles to reach your goal, you can't just want to want to, you need to be in a full-on tizzy of excitement about what it is you're going after and hold onto it like a pit bull. In order to do this you need to have the audacity to be honest about what you really want to do, not what you should do, and believe it's available to you regardless of any evidence otherwise.”
So this is my announcement to the universe:
I can do anything I put my mind to!
I am confident in my business & mission!
I will always be growing and learning!
I embody love and kindness!
I have a story to tell!
Are you still here?
Go read that book, watch my first very awkward YouTube video, and lastly remember that you are pretty awesome too.
Love, Emma Jean
